Nomos Glashütte: Sophisticated Design Meets High Quality Mechanics
Although NOMOS Glashütte is only a quarter of a century old, it has already established itself as a manufacturer of true watch classics. It is also the largest German manufacturer of mechanical watches and has created eleven movements. The recipe for success is the brand's young, fresh image and its aim to modernize the mechanical watch with contemporary design and high-quality mechanics.
Pioneering Spirit and Glashütte Expertise
The beginnings of NOMOS Glashütte date back to 1990 when Roland Schwertner founded the company shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The brand produced its first four basic models in 1992: Tangente, Orion, Ludwig, and Tetra. The Tangente, long considered a classic, is a true icon for the brand, having won numerous awards for its form and quality.
Technological Independence
From the very beginning, NOMOS Glashütte has focused on vertical integration. For this brand, at least 50 percent of the caliber must be produced locally, as is required of all watchmakers who claim "Glashütte" as the origin of their watches. Today, NOMOS Glashütte easily meets this requirement by ensuring that, depending on the caliber, up to 95 percent of each watch's production takes place in Glashütte. In 2014, the manufacturer astonished the experts with the launch of its own NOMOS-Swing-System. Only a few watch brands in the world can produce a Swing System, as it is tiny and light as a feather and forms the heart of the mechanical watch.
Shortly after the launch of the NOMOS-Swing-System, the brand also presented a new generation of hand-wound flat and chronometer-precise self-winding movements.
Nomos Glashütte at Wempe
The collaboration between Wempe and NOMOS Glashütte began in 1995, and since then collector's editions have been created that are only available in Wempe showrooms. We also carry numerous other lines from this German brand and offer a comprehensive watch service for each model.
