IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer—Designed for All Waters
Even though the name IWC Schaffhausen is primarily associated with professional aviator watches, the brand has also been associated with diving watches since 1967. This was the year the first Aquatimer was developed. The first Aquatimer was water-resistant to 20 bar—which corresponds to the pressure at 200 meters under water—and had a display for the diving time on an internal rotating ring.
IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer—the Evolution of a Diving Watch
Since then, the IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer line has been an integral part of this Swiss watch brand's portfolio. It has been continuously developed and expanded with ever more powerful models over the years. In 1982, for example, the IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer Ocean 2000 caused a sensation as the first 20 bar pressure-resistant diving watch with a titanium case and external rotating ring. It was the first watch ever to withstand the pressure of this extreme depth. The flagship of the line, the Aquatimer GST Deep One, appeared in 1999 and was the first IWC watch to feature a mechanical depth gauge.
IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer—State of the Art Watches
For over 50 years, the inventive IWC's engineers have repeatedly produced new technology to make the models from IWC Schaffhausen perfect for all kinds of adventures, both on land and in water. For example, they invented an outside-internal rotating ring, which prevents you from being able to adjust the diving time by accident. IWC Schaffhausen has also frequently introduced innovative materials in this line, such as the vulcanized rubber coating now found on the case of the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Galapagos Islands”.
Today, the IWC Schaffhausen line comprises a diverse range of professional diving watches designed for extreme situations—from the classic Aquatimer Automatic to limited special editions, such as the IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau”. What they all have in common is their expressive aesthetics, professional features and the IWC bracelet quick-change system.
