Pocket Watches: Timeless Classics
No other accessory can make a suit look as good as a pocket watch. These round timepieces are often attached to a chain and kept in the pocket of the waistcoat or trousers. So, if you would like a sophisticated accessory for a wedding or other special occasion, you can't go wrong with an elegant pocket watch.
The Versatile Predecessors of the Wristwatch
The first pocket watch was made in the 16th century. Around 1510, the Nuremberg locksmith Peter Henlein designed the first watch which could be worn on the person. After his death, Henlein's original pocket watch design developed into the “Nuremberg Egg”, which is still famous today. The wristwatch didn't become fashionable until the 19th century and many of the innovations in pocket watches were carried over into the production of wristwatches, including the use of precious materials and new, smaller complications. Today, Wempe offers various pocket watches, including those with stopwatch functions, open face pocket watches, and pocket watches with intricate cases.
