The tennis bracelet – a sparkling must-have with many names

The tennis bracelet has been fascinating jewelry lovers since the 1920s. It's no wonder, when these bracelets are made up of radiant diamonds, linked together with precious gold settings. Otherwise known as "rivière" bracelets, tennis bracelets became especially popular in the 1970s and 1980s and are now worn every day as they are designed to sit loosely and comfortably on your wrist while you go about your daily activities.
The tennis bracelet is a beautiful adornment for any evening gown, but also makes a charming accessory for any casual outfit too. Wempe puts the traditional gold bracelet in a new, modern light with square-cut diamonds or colorful colored gemstones that are harmoniously combined with different precious metals and settings, which means we offer countless variations of these stunning bracelets. Tennis bracelets can be worn with an eternity ring made of the same metal, or with several bracelets made of gold or platinum.

The tennis bracelet – a piece of jewelry with a story

The "riviére" bracelet became the "tennis bracelet" in 1987 when the world-famous American tennis player Chris Evert competed in a tennis match at the US Open wearing a diamond bracelet. When she realized that her bracelet had gone missing during the match, the umpire called a break in play so that she could search for it. After her bracelet was found, she and her competitor continued the match, but she lost in the end. That day, however, Chris Evert's diamond bracelet with its symmetrical pattern of round diamonds became known as a tennis bracelet and it quickly became a modern piece of jewelry for self-confident, active women.
