Vive Le Mans: The new TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Special Edition at Wempe
A shared passion: The new TAG Heuer Gulf Special Edition brings to life great moments of motor sports history.
First-class design – inspired by the love of motorsport
The design of the new edition of this popular legendary watch is reminiscent of the striking Gulf color scheme. As a reference to the roots and the sporting ambition of this elegant watch the petrol-blue dial features stripes in the famous Gulf racing colors. Inside the distinctive square case ticks – as in the original model from 1969 - the famous Calibre 11, which was back then the first self-winding automatic chronograph movement in the history of watches. With a size of 39 x 39 mm, the crown on the left side, the date window at 6 o’clock, the vintage Heuer logo and a water-resistance of up to 100 meters, this model features all typical elements of the Monaco. Furthermore, the Gulf logo adorns the dial at 6 o’clock and a transparent case back allows viewing the caliber’s gear train. The overall impression is completed by a petrol-blue leather strap with orange stitching that matches the dial. All in all, an interpretation that pays tribute to the legendary automobile tradition of the manufacture from La-Chaux-de-Fonds and will raise the pulse rate of every motor racing aficionado.

The famous blue and orange racing stripes are an unmistakable signal: Gulf, an integral element of the automobile industry for more than 115 years, stands for quality, stamina and passion. Its history is full of innovation and resembles in many aspects the one of TAG Heuer. It is thus no surprise that the paths of the two companies have often crossed –especially in 1971, when Steve McQueen wore a TAG Heuer Monaco on his wrist in the Le Mans movie while driving a Porsche 917 bearing the Gulf logo.
Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer, is very happy about the joint project: “It's a real privilege to forge links with Gulf and its history in automotive sport that includes the Porsche 917K, Steve McQueen, the Le Mans 24 Hour Race and the Monaco watch. It's a prestigious and emotional partnership. I know of few other brands that could share as many memories of pit stops and which have a relationship as strong and authentic. We share the same passion and this promises good things for the future!“
