Louis Cartier designed the Tank watch in 1917 and presented the first prototype to General Pershing. The flat brancards of this watch were inspired by the tracks of the very first tanks. The Tank watch became a genuine icon and was produced in many variations, while remaining true to its own distinctive style.
Tank Louis Cartier
Louis Cartier wore his Tank watch himself. The Tank Louis Cartier is the reference model for all Tank watches. While the rectangular shape was retained, the rounded horns symbolize Cartier’s contribution to the modern style that was later known as Art Déco.
