



For three generations, our Hamburg-based family company for exquisite timepieces and jewellery was under the leadership of fathers and sons. Hellmut Wempe, however, had a daughter and it quickly became clear what happens when a woman like Kim-Eva Wempe takes the reins of the business.
In less than ten years she created a jewellery brand with an identity and a soul all its own: BY KIM.
Kim-Eva Wempe revealed her true entrepreneurial heart. She put together a team from her most competent employees, found a designer in Catherine Plouchard and encountered master goldsmiths with superb skills in her workshop of choice.
Kim-Eva had a bold vision: it was all about the discovery of new lines and volumes in jewellery that could keep pace with fashion and zeitgeist. She expected creations for men and women that could successfully express the shape of their lives in jewellery—proudly, sensually, and beautifully, just like them: “I bring a cosmopolitan feel with me from the world in which I lead my own life. It isn’t only about innovation and design; it is also about a freer, expressive design language. I am thinking of jewellery that stands out while being discreet about it. It needs a certain charisma that can hold its own against fashion.”
At the beginning, the heart of BY KIM comprised volume and transparency. Transparency underscores the magic nakedness of the stone. Volume ensures a comforting shape that is delightful to the sense of touch and addresses the emotions. This is how jewellery is created that isn’t only beautiful, but also translates into emotion with one touch of the hand.
The global De Beers competition “Diamonds—Nature’s Miracles” rewarded Kim-Eva Wempe and her team with a special prize for the creation of the necklace Chronos and Cosmos in 2004. Catherine Plouchard became creative director of the brand BY KIM.
A new aspect was introduced as a focus of design: passion. Displayed in the passion for even the smallest details like loops and clasps, this motto can also be worn: Tempus Fugit—Amor Manet, or “time flies, love endures.” This passion is demanded more and more often by admirers of the BY KIM brand in the shape of their own desires realised in runway models.
In 2007 another dream became reality: the creation of a ring that one might think has been in existence forever. This ring is fascinating the way that only the fully new and innovative can be: Helioro. A ring that quickly attained the status of international bestseller.
It is 2009, and we welcome two new runway models: Fireworks and Dolce Vita.
Naturally, all BY KIM creations are German products made in Wempe’s own workshop located in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
